United to launch non-stop New York to Cape town
United Airlines plans to be the world’s only carrier to fly between New York/Newark (EWR) and Cape Town International Airport (CPT), with the seasonal service expected to launch from 15 December 2019. Flying three-times-weekly on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the flight will decrease current travel time between the two cities by more than four hours. Read more.
Virgin/Delta new services to Gatwick
Next summer will see Virgin/Delta launch new routes between Boston and New York JFK Airport to London’s Gatwick Airport. The new flights will compliment VS’s current Gatwick-Florida and Gatwick-Caribbean service, while Delta will be welcomed back for the first time in 8 years.
Air France releases new business class menu
La Premiere first class and business class passengers flying between Singapore and Paris are now being served Air France’s newly upgraded in-flight menu. The menu was designed my Julien Royer, co-founder and chef de cuisine at Singapore’s feted Odette restaurant, and features cod confit, chicken ballottine with crayfish and ’Apicius’ duck leg for La Premiere, and grilled scallops, slow-cooked & grilled ‘kurobuta’ pork breast and braised beef cheek in a red wine to name a few.
Airbus announces Settee Corner concept
A new take on the ‘lie-flat beds’, Airbus has introduced the idea of a ‘lie-flat passenger’ with its Settee Corner business class product. The Settee Corner has been recommended for Airbus’ long-range A321LR jets, configured in two seats per row with 12 seats in total.
Heathrow launches superfast Wi-Fi
A new speedy Wi-Fi service is now offered at Heathrow Airport as a partnership with US mobile internet business, Boingo. The Wi-Fi uses Passpoint technology to deliver a secure and seamless experience for passengers in all terminals. Passengers who are members of the Heathrow Rewards loyalty programme will be able to earn 100 points by signing in to the new Wi-Fi service with their Rewards account.
Manchester Airport T2 pier
Manchester Airport has opened a new pier at Terminal 2, as the latest phase of the airport’s £1billion redevelopment project. The pier runs for 216-metres with 11 gates and airbridges, offering over 1,400 seats for passengers. Further developments will see the terminal expand to twice its size in 2020, and the addition of two piers opening in 2022 and 2024.
SAS launches London Stanstead-Copenhagen
On 8 April 2019, Scandinavian Airlines officially launched its new flights between London Stanstead Airport and Copenhagen. The flight departs London at 12:20 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and returns at 16:45. On Sundays the flight departs at 13:10 returning to London at 15:35.
Qantas’ Perth-London review
One year since the launch of Qantas’ iconic Perth to London flights, the carrier has released some insights on the route’s impact on travel and the economy. A remarkable capacity of 94% (compared to 80% industry average) has been reported, with 155,000 passengers carried in year one. Read more.
No1 Lounges Clubrooms Collection for Luton
No1 Lounges has announced it will open a new Clubrooms Collection lounge at London’s Luton Airport, joining the Birmingham and Gatwick North and South portfolio. Scheduled to open in July, the premium Luton lounge will be located next to the main departure area and cost £27 until October 1, 2019, after which the rate will be £36 online or £40 on the door.
New Orleans airport upgrade delayed
The US$1 billion terminal project at New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport has been delayed once more, now scheduled to open in Autumn 2019. City officials have estimated that the terminal is now roughly 95% complete.
New Club LAS Lounge for Las Vegas
Triple the size of it’s former facility, the new Club LAS Lounge at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport is open for business. The lounge has seating for 149 passengers, with dedicated work, relaxation and rest stations. Priority Pass members can access the lunge for free, while others can pay a daily fee of USD$40.
Leonardo Hotels announce four hotels for Central London
This April, Leonardo Hotels officially rebranded four previously known Grange properties in Central London. The list includes Leonardo Royal Hotel London St Paul’s (formerly Grange St Paul’s Hotel), Leonardo Royal Hotel London City (formerly Grange City Hotel London), Leonardo Royal Hotel London Tower Bridge (formerly Grange Hotel Tower Bridge) and Jurys Inn London Holborn (formerly Grange Holborn Hotel).
Accor’s Mama brand for London
Mama by Accor will open its newest property in East London this summer, joining a list of other trendy locations including Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Belgrade, Prague and Toulouse. The hotel offers 195 guest rooms, a variety of meeting and events spaces, and a restaurant and bar.
Travelodge new opening in Liverpool
Travelodge’s Liverpool Edge lane property is now open for business, conveniently located at the Liverpool Innovation Park Business Centre. The hotel offers the chain’s popular Bar Café, serving a full unlimited breakfast and tasty evening meals.
IHG announce new Hotel Indigo for Madrid
A new 100-room Hotel Indigo property will open in Madrid later this year, located in the Moncloa-Arguelles area towards the north of the city centre. The hotel will offer stunning city views from the rooftop terrace, a restaurant and fitness centre for guests.
IHG’s 18th century landmark hotel in Lyon
An 18th century landmark building in Lyon, France, will soon reopen under the InterContinental Hotel brand as InterContinental Lyon – Hotel Dieu. The riverfront property is currently undergoing a restoration project and will offer 104 rooms and 35 suites when it officially opens in June 2019.
