berthed at Resorts World Sentosa and

designed specifically to cater for up to 149

VIPs for a day’s sailing or ten cruising.

A cable car ride to scale Mount Faber,

with a dining and entertainment complex

at its peak, is another must-see sight,

and from here another cable car links to

Sentosa Island where guests can enjoy

two golf courses, a long sheltered beach,

Universal Studios, the aquarium and

facilities at over a dozen hotels.

One of them is the five-star Equarius

Hotel Sentosa, with spacious, balconied

bedrooms, butlers with all suites, an ESPA

spa, a restaurant under a forest canopy-

inspired ceiling, friendly and helpful

staff and great conference facilities on a

dedicated floor.

Back on the main island and the

Botanical Gardens and the zoo provide

easy distractions, while two other particular

event spaces make Singapore work super

efficiently for conferences and events.

The five-star Marina Bay Sands’ floor-

to-ceiling windows overlook the city and

Gardens of the Bay, while the hotel’s

rooftop infinity pool matches these

panoramic views. Martha says this venue

definitely has the wow factor. Facilities

include the Banyan Tree Spa, the first

class Club lounge on the 55th floor and

over 120,000 sq m of flexible space, 250

meeting rooms, southeast Asia’s largest

ballroom and capacity for 2,000 exhibition

booths.

The Gardens by the Bay is some 101

hectares of reclaimed land adjacent to the

marina, with a giant flower dome and cloud

forest dome, many dining options and

nine different meeting venues including

The Meadow, Singapore’s largest outdoor

Garden event space, or the more intimate

Silver Leaf for more exclusive events.

“Singapore really does tick all the boxes

for whatever type of event our clients may

want,” concludes Martha.

Aside from creative input, a good events team has to

accumulate excellent

destination knowledge

team honed up on Singapore

with full table service, a menu crafted by

celebrity chefs and a Book the Cook pre-

ordering service.

Once on the ground in this tiny island

city-state, the diverse culture is evident

from the Malay, Chinese and Indian ethnic

groups that make up the 5.4m population:

Chinatown’s red and gold Buddha’s Tooth

Relic temple, the colorful fabric and

souvenir shops in Little India and the

Malay-inspired cuisine, such as the classic

Nasi goreng with meat and rojak salad with

black shrimp and peanuts.

Food is certainly a major distraction

on the island and no event is complete

without a dine-around, a trip to one of the

hawker centres, open-air food courts, to

sample southeast Asian cuisine, to graze

in Chinatown or to sample iconic dim sum

at The Clifford Pier inside The Fullerton

Bay Hotel.

Fun-filled days can include time aboard

the Royal Albatross, a luxury schooner

Back

in June, Martha Allen, recently

appointed Event Manager at Chambers

Travel Management, spent three productive

days exploring the Asian powerhouse that is

the island of Singapore.

Her objective was to update her

knowledge on the venues and attractions

across the island that would help piece

together a memorable itinerary for any

client event.

As a guest of Singapore Airlines, the

recce began by sampling their award-

winning business class product 35,000

feet up. A fully flat bed in 1-2-1 layout

promotes sleep; helped by a built-in

bed padding, light duvet, pillows and

fresh linen. The leather seat incorporates

office space with in-seat power supply

and USB ports and an impressive 15.4-

inch wide LCD screen gives access to an

entertainment multiplex, augmented by

noise-cancelling headphones.
