How can an organisation start to reduce

their exposure to these risks? A starting

point is to look at the Travel Risk Map from

International SOS and Control Risks, which

displays each country’s medical risk rating

and travel security risk rating.

The map provides a succinct summary

of the main medical and security risks

in countries around the world, helping

organisations focus their planning and

resources on the locations where it is

most likely to be needed, and on the

right kind of preparation or support.

Equally important is having a solid plan

for responding to an incident if one were to

occur. Having reliable in-country providers

available to provide the right support to

your travellers at the right time and place

should their safety or wellbeing be at risk

is also essential – and clearly requires

preparation. That network can also serve

as an invaluable source of information

about the real threats on the ground.

TOP FIVE TIPS TO ASSESS

RISK READINESS

1.

Identify specific health and security

risks at event location

2.

Ensure event delegates are prepared

for the trip – can be in the form of

either pre-travel briefings or sending

notifications that includes relevant

medical, security & itinerary details

3.

Set up an online platform that

contains critical information of the

destination country, for ease of access

by delegates and/or business travellers

4.

Ensure first aid kits (or stations) or

evacuation routes/plans are in place in

case of emergency

5.

Have a reliable partner who has the

necessary medical and security expertise

to support you on the ground.

HOW CTM MITIGATES

RISK FOR CLIENTS

CTMs Traveller Tracker provides an

interactive map showing where all

company travellers are located within a

given date range. When the tool opens

it defaults to a week out, highlighting

clusters of travellers in one colour and

individual travellers in another. It allows

travel managers to quickly check on the

status of flights, if travellers are impacted

by a risk event, and provides the ability to

contact travellers via email or SMS directly

from the widget. It can filter by traveller

name, location or date, itineraries, flight

status and contact information.

In addition, GeoRisk provides a colour-

coded world view of risk. The tool shows

current events that have happened –two

days to +60 days and any travellers that

have been impacted by a risk event and

details that event.

Users can download a CSV file of all

travellers impacted by a risk event which

includes their reservation number, name

and contact information.

Travel arrangers can opt-in to receive

consolidated emails listing all travellers

impacted by an event.

WHO IS SAFE?

Double

the number of larger corporates

than SMEs (53% compared to 25%)

say they only conduct risk assessments

if an employee is travelling to an area

deemed high risk says a new report

from Collinson Group. Under half (47%)

of HR professionals at larger corporates

said they ensure employees are issued

with company guidelines with regards

to safety and security when travelling

on business, reducing to 40% for SMEs.

Furthermore

, some 28% of larger

corporates and 23% of SMEs

agreed that ‘internal coordination

of responsibility’ was the most

challenging aspect of sending people

overseas on business. Clarifying the

risks presented by different locations

was another top concern for both

business types (22% of corporates

and 25% of SMEs).

A further

quarter (24%) of larger

corporates cited ‘staying ahead of risk

drivers’ as the most challenging aspect,

as opposed to just 10% of SMEs.
